I completely agree with your last paragraph. It's been four months since the House voted to hold Mark Meadows in criminal contempt and referred it to the DOJ. It took less than a month for Steve Bannon to be indicted after his criminal contempt referral from the House.

Of course, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes at the DOJ. Maybe we'll get one major indictment against Trump, his son, Meadows, & others involved in trying to overturn the election & provoking Jan. 6. I guess one can only hope. Unfortunately, right now, that's all we have is hope.

Sadly it’s already too late for Garland to do anything. Democrats are going to get wiped out on the fall, and frankly we deserve it. If we can’t hold the GOP to account for a friggin COUP for gods sake…

I don't think projection of pessimism and losing when the right side in this battle, and the truth with it, has not yet helps. I read it everywhere in comments, including in the NYT and WAPO and here (below) too. It's worrisome. I admire the hope and fight in Ukrainians now for inspiration. So many are such crybabies, so soft and spoiled. It's the affect, part of the Trump Trauma or culminating in that long happening in the GOP. The symptoms are depression, disappointment in our people (generally) and pronouncements that "we are a failed democracy" already. It's impatience with the slow movement of justice to the point of disbelief in it altogether. It can be catching and a cause in and of itself, causing folks to recoil altogether. I am worried about that now.

I think we have to be aware of what Aaron is reporting depressing as it is but also resist falling into this pit.

We recently watched Ken Burns 2 parter on Benjamin Franklin. Excellent. Good for perspective. We did not have an easy birth, nor only good actors. That famous line after the question posed "you have a republic if you can keep it" applies still; we are as divided as ever. I recoil when folks make the easy mistake of substituting "democracy" for the word "republic". We have a democracy ( we do!!) and we mist keep it. This here is part of it.

By the way -The NYTimes had an excellent piece focussing on Fiona Hill but others, reviewing and putting together the story about the Trump connection to the war in Ukraine.
