A huge AMEN. Coming on the heels of "but her emails" followed by the president's daughter and son-in-law sitting in the West Wing using gmail addresses to spread state secrets all over the world, the VP's caution shows responsibility and respect for her position. I am so tired of the beltway media's treatment of politics as if it is sports. Who has the better pitcher? Can the second baseman really throw to home? This is the American government, y'all! Take it seriously!

I bet there isn't an executive or money manager or lawyer or...well, any professional, who allows someone to wait in his/her office alone for a meeting or appointment. That's why there are receptionists, secretaries, and lounge-y waiting areas.

What I’d like to know from Dole (haven’t read the recent interview(s) ) is, how did he square Trump with his own lifelong concerns in public service—disability rights, funding Social Security, etc? Did he simply not register what was violently inconsistent with his own convictions, the ones he actually fought for over the decades? To me it all points up again how complicated this is, how essentially decent people get sucked in or buy in to Trump / Trumpism. It’s so hard to square that with Dole’s public life. So I’m not going to ignore it, but def cut him slack I don’t cut others. Dude was in his 90s when Trump came down the escalator, and Dole’s record of service stands for itself. It’s perplexing and unfathomable. But as you say, it in no way undercuts his suffering in the name of preserving this country and helping its people. Just another jarring note in this plague time of endlessly echoing cognitive dissonance.

These nothing burgers take away energy/brainpower time from more important things for a citizen to be concentrating on. So I agree they are to be called out. I take your work defacto to be about criticism of the media focus along with all else you feature about the actors themselves. Pointing this out also takes brainpower/energy but it is the state of things we should not only be aware of, but should also be lookin for proper responses, much of which is missing. Thus the frustration with Democrats. They take the high road supposedly. I don't think it works well ( according to polls). Harris's office was exemplary in their answer I think. That politico was bass ackwards trying to get a serious answer to a supposedly serious question is not believable.

Regarding Dole I am able to be much less forgiving of his partisanship above all even to supporting Trump to what might seem like a death bed conversion. He was a voice of authority and supposed sanity and could have stood up and not gone along. Look at the SCOTUS we have for instance. Look at how much more deeply divided we are. The rabble rousers and gun toters, the enemy within was given a thumbs up.

So I am sorry, that last Dole wish is totally hypocritical. It's one thing to mouth optimism but one's actions (or inaction in this case from an elder statesman) says a whole lot more.
