Collins should have just said the quiet part out loud. Neither Trump nor Reagan said "black" woman when they said they would appoint a woman to the SC. It's not the "woman" part that Collins thinks is "political", it's the "black" part.

I'm so done with giving her even a tiny bit of benefit of doubt about presenting herself as a voice of moderation and thoughtfulness. She shows little upstairs too. The Republicans politicized the court to the point of its present imbalance via canceling norms and requiring (blatant) political qualification over jurisprudence smarts and temperament. Susan Collins was on board equivocating, trying to sell her "reasoned moderation". Don't forget the Senate shoved in (stole) two SCOTUS seats for Trump- entirely political. It's not hard to feel that the GOP is going to ram their way in regardless of being in the minority, not where the country is. This is a recipe for unrest.
